Production Expansion Plans
At the recent launch of the XEV 9S, Mahindra unveiled plans to boost production capabilities at its Chakan facility in Maharashtra. The plant’s capacity will increase from 90,000 to 120,000 units by March 2026, with a target of producing 8,000 units each month.
Sales Projections
Rakesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive and Farm Divisions, expressed confidence in reaching the goal of 7,000 monthly sales, which would represent about 90% of total production. By March 2028, Mahindra anticipates that electric vehicles will account for approximately 25% of its total sales, significantly driven by popular models like the BE 6, XEV 9S, and XEV 9e.
Global Expansion Strategy
Looking ahead, Mahindra plans to export its EVs to both Right-Hand Drive (RHD) and Left-Hand Drive (LHD) markets, with initial shipments focusing on the UK and EU. These vehicles will be customized to meet local safety regulations and consumer preferences.
Investment in Electric Vehicles
From April 2021 to March 2027, Mahindra is committing an impressive 16,000 crore rupees towards its EV initiatives. This investment includes 6,500 crore rupees allocated for the current three models: 4,500 crore rupees for the BE 6 and XEV 9e, and 2,000 crore rupees for the XEV 9S.
Recent Sales Success
Since launching the BE 6 and XEV 9e last November, Mahindra has reported over 30,000 unit sales in just seven months. These vehicles have collectively traveled more than 20 crore kilometers, with around 60% achieving a city range exceeding 500 kilometers at speeds below 100 km/h.
